Redwood lets Cameron's cuts cat out of the bag...

Senior Tory MP John Redwood has let the Cameron cat out of the bag by predicting even more swingeing cuts than the Conservative Leader admits he is planning.

Yesterday, Tory treasury spokesman Philip Hammond admitted that the Tories were planning cuts to public services of £1.5 BILLION this year.

This was after David Cameron, clearly rattled by polls which showed Labour closing the gap, started pretending that early Tory cuts would not be as massive as he had earlier indicated.

Today, Prime Minister Gordon Brown made it clear that cutting the deficit this year - as the Tories are determined to do - would choke off the economic recovery and plunge the economy into a 'double dip' recession.

Cutting the deficit this year would see more businesses going under, repossessions and job losses.

Tonight, John Redwood was asked on Sky News if £1.5 BILLION in cuts in 2010 was about right.this year.

Redwood's response: 'Oh I think it will be more than that...'‏

Ken Clarke is back...Bring 'em on!

ITN just announced that former Tory Chancellor Ken Clarke has done a deal with David Cameron and will become Shadow Business Secretary tomorrow - replacing fellow East Midlands MP Alan Duncan.

ITN says the pro-European MP Ken Clarke has taken a 'vow of silence' on his pro-European views to keep the anti-Euro Tories in their box.

We'll see...

Meanwhile, can't wait to see Cameron bring back the other 'big beasts' of yesteryear like John Redwood, Norman Tebbitt and Michael Howard.

Bring 'em on!

Fair Deal Phil beats Boris...!

Chuffed to bits to see I've been voted number 26 out of the Top 500 in Iain Dale's new Guide to Political Blogging 2007 published tonight.

A huge THANK YOU to readers and fellow bloggers who voted for me.

Last year I was thrilled to be placed seventy-something in Dale's top 100 Labour blogs.

So I'm delighted to be 26 in this year's all-comers league table. Iain says 14 of his top 20 are on the right and only two on the left. (and i notice some are professional writers and broadcasters).

So he appears to rank me about fifth highest Labour blogger.

Just noticed I'm ten places higher than Boris Johnson in the all-comers table and 16 places above John Redwood.

Bet you can't guess who's at the top of Iain Dale's league table...

Anyway, the top 300 are on his site. He says you'll have to buy the book to see the full list of the top 500!

Who makes John Redwood look more foolish...the BBC or John Redwood?

Tonight's London Standard picks up the BBC apology to John Redwood which I posted HERE yesterday.

The Standard says:

Faced with accusations of anti-Tory bias and gratuitously trying to make the former Cabinet minister look foolish, the corporation's director of news Helen Boaden admitted it was "wrong" to use the clip.
The BBC trying to make John Redwood look foolish...? Didn't he do that all by himself...?

Tomorrow, David Cameron will wheel out the same old John Redwood to announce policies which would lead to massive cuts in vital public services if the Tories are ever trusted to run Britain again.

Tories are desperate to airbrush out their appalling boom-n-bust record, including two recessions and mass unemployment and misery delivered by John Redwood and his Tory mates.

Shamefully, the BBC have buckled under pressure.

Fortunately, the Tories can't gag blogs. This is what the Tories don't want you to see.
