With great sympathy to the injured what was this you were saying about crime falling in Lincolnshire Phil?
Yeh but no but yeh...
"It's only due to the prosperity delivered by this Chancellor that people in Britain have got cars to nick. Don't you know under t'Tories every went around by horse and cart and called each other guv".
If only other European countries had our prosperity, they could get squashed by wild runaway criminals in broad daylight while their police stand round like muppets.
geoffrey:
not me saying crime has fallen over a number of years in lincolnshire....it's the Chief Constable...!
Unfortunately the Chief Constable was talking out of his backside.
Geoffrey, how is (a) crime happening evidence that crime isn't falling?
(Not that I'm saying it is, it's just that it seems to be a pretty obtuse link -- if crime was falling crime would still happen, right?)
geoffrey:
that's an outrageous slur on the Chief Constable - do you have any evidence or are you simply doing what you accuse him of...?
Don't take it personally.
All I am doing is pointing out a fact which is that since 1997 violent crime has more than doubled; gun crime has doubled; almost 450,000 more crimes were committed in 2005-06 than in 1998-9; but just one in four crimes is now cleared up by the police.
Therefore, yes, the Chief Constable is talking out of his backside and the figures prove that he is.
geoffrey:
doesn't sound anything like the Lincolnshire i know where crime has fallen and both you are i are less likely to become a victim of crime.
Maybe its because the way crime is calculated nowadays so as to suit the spin doctors in the Labour Party.
The latest according to the Daily Mail today is that two million violent crimes are left out of the official statistics every year because of the Government's 'misleading way' of counting them.
So your basis of accusing the chief constable of lincolnshire of being a liar appears to be a headline in the daily, er, mail...
of course, not remotely possible that the daily mail might be talking out of its backside...
you're backing the wrong horse geoffrey.
I'm basing my judgment on not just national statistics but also how those statistics are made (or fiddled as the case may be).
I think its also very credible to ask that if crime is actually down why are our prisons so full and why are so many prisoners being released so early often in many circumstances with compensation culture payments to cover board and lodgings.
In all, my argument in truthful, integral and one that stands up where as the government's argument is becoming an even bigger laughing stock as the days go by.
Phil makes this sound like a done deal. Quite a lot of surveys - using credible methods - show violent crime has risen sharply during the last ten years. And accusing the Daily Mail of telling lies is stretching it. I see another has hit the headlines today.
Quo bono? In this case the police. So of course they lie. Anyone naive enough to believe these stats is too stupid for words.
"I think its also very credible to ask that if crime is actually down why are our prisons so full"
While I wouldn't actually venture it as an answer, the question above does seem to be phrased so as to be self-answering. ;-)
