Israel's smug response after bombing THREE schools...

Yesterday, I asked how many more innocents would have to die in the Gaza conflict that has become the war of the children.

Today, Israeli forces provide the answer: many more. In the face of growing world condemnation, Israel attempted to justify bombing not one, but THREE Gaza schools in one day.

In the most horrific carnage, more than 30 people died when they attacked a UNITED NATIONS school.

The school was being used by Gazans trying to shelter from the rockets and shells raining in from land, sea and air onto one of the most densely populated patches on earth.

Many of the victims were children, as you might expect in the shelling of a school.

The Israelis claimed mortars were fired from the school and that totally justified their actions. The UN say they have no evidence that mortars were fired from the school.

I thought the Israeli PM's spokesman Mark Regey make an astonishing admission when questioned by the media.

He said Israeli forces were not to know that there might be 'civilians' inside the school.

Unbelievable.

But worse was to come from Israeli Internal Security Minister Meir Shitreet.

His smiled smugly throughout his Newsnight interview with Mark Urban.

When the horror of the school attack was put to him, the apparently uncaring Mr Shitreet responded with two words:

'So what?'

Is that totally sickening or what?

Of course everyone did not want to reach a situation in which IDF soldiers were ordered to go into Gaza.

I hoped that Israel would succeed in preventing this but from the moment they decided to go into Gaza it had to be done with determination and without hesitation.

People must not forget that Israel are dealing with brutal terrorist organisations devoid of the compassion and tolerance which characterise
traditional christian nations.

Therefore, the blow inflicted upon Hamas had to have unprecedented strength.
One must not forget that Israel has also suffered losses since the start of Operation Cast Lead but should not be disillusioned that there could be fighting without casualties.

That is why I believe that that the war must go on until the conditions that are essential for Israel's security are met, that Hamas rocket fire ends and that means that the strengthening of the terrorist organisations via the smuggling of war materiel from Egypt into Gaza must also stop.

In the last two years, Israel has dedicated great and almost unprecedented efforts in order to reach peace with the Palestinians and the Syrians.

This in itself proves that Israel are not a country of war and do not want to fight but we must not forget that when it comes to on security Israel or any country for that matter should never compromise.

I have no hesitation that God will bless the people of Israel who believe in him because those who trust in their resolve will never perish but have everlasting life.

just because you believe Hamas lacks compassion (and you may be right) is no reason for Israel (of all people) to ignore even the Geneva Convention.

Yesterday, they promised video footage of mortars being fired from one of the three UN schools they bombed, the one where they murdered more than 40 people, many of them children.

The footage has not been forthcoming. On the contrary, the evidence that has emerged today is that

1. the school was in fact being used as a refuge by terrified Gazans families trying to protect their children from the Israeli bombs,

2. it had a UN flag flying above it,

3. that the Israelis had been fully informed that it was an UN installation,

4. the school was guarded and protected by UN staff to ensure it was not infiltrated by Hamas.

5. the United Nations themselves dispute Israeli claims of the school being used as a Hamas firebase and call for accountability under the Geneva Convention of the Israeli forces for their actions.

If you really believe that Israel is 'not a country of war' and has not taken action against Gaza in the past couple of years, please Google 'Gaza Children' to read about previous Israeli rocket attacks on schools and the deaths of many children.

Rather than solving the problem, sadly, the long term result of Israel's action over the past 16 days is more likely to turn a new generation of Palestinians against than solve anything...

Total bollox Mr Anonymous.

I don't know what their real objective was, but the Israelis appear to have spent the last fortnight shooting themselves in both feet and probably creating a new generation of hate in the Middle East.

In case you missed it, I'll post later on today's developments which include:

1. The Times of London accusing Israel of using phosphorous shells, illegal under international laws to be used against civilians.

2. The UN suspending its operations after two of its employees killed by an Israeli shell, no doubt in the 'fog of war'.

3. The International Red Cross Committee, described (by Newsnight) as 'a conservative organisation which avoids controversy' attacking the Israelis for ignoring the plight of starving dying children in Gaza.
