Tourism in Lincoln relegated to 2nd Division...?

I was first to welcome moves by the Tory Leader of Lincolnshire County Council to limit potential damage by shutting down both tourism centres serving historic Lincoln.

Martin Hill knows that the decision by his colleagues who run Lincoln City Council to save a few bob could cost the local economy dear in the long run.

He is putting on a brave face by hoping local businesses devoting a corner of their shop to promote Lincoln's attractions will offer a '21st Century' solution...

...But while no doubt better than nothing, will Martin's alternative plan relegate historic Lincoln to the second division of UK destinations, as suggested by one business leader in tonight's Echo?

I hope not...

Guess whose Lincoln Greenery is skin-deep...?

Guess which politician took a chauffeur-driven car 140-miles from Lincoln to London after the recording of last Thursday's BBC Question Time programme...?

No, not Tory or Labour...but Caroline Lucas, leading light of the er, Green Party. Her first contribution to the BBC debate in Lincoln was to criticise other political parties for what she described as their 'skin-deep greenery'.

The Green member of the European Parliament, went on to call for a dose of 'political honesty' over the costs of motoring.

The Lincolnshire Echo reveals that Ms Lucas missed a train to Lincoln and so took a car and that after the programme she was chaffeurred back to London in another car...

She'd prefer to portray a very different image - like this one of her 'cycling in her constituency' from her website.

Almost as hypocritical as when Tory Leader David Cameron was caught cycling to work to demonstrate his 'greenery' - with a chauffeur-driven gas-guzzler following behind carrying his shoes and briefcase!

Yes, almost...But not quite!

Life good here in Lincs...

Lincolnshire scores well in the latest quality of life survey - and has the lowest house prices of the top 50 counties.

Low levels of crime and plenty of sunshine were two of the indicators on measuring quality of life...

Lincoln councillor sacked after Facebook comments...

A Tory councillor has today been forced to resign from his job on the Executive of Lincoln City Council following a row over 'inappropriate' comments about terrorism and serial killers that he apparently made on Facebook, the social networking site.

Lincolnshire Echo has more on this breaking news...

Councillor Oliver Peake admits he's made a misjudgement.

I've not seen the comments he made, so I'm unable to judge whether political correctness gone mad - as alleged by Echo readers...or whether it's a case of Tory jitters over the prospect of losing control of Lincoln City Council in local elections in a few weeks time...

Petitions launched after massive council tax rise to fund Lincs Police...

Two petitions have been launched regarding the massive rise in council rates to fund Lincolnshire Police. The Lincolnshire Echo says that so far, only 200 people have signed a petition calling on the Government to intervene to stop the increase.

But that's ten times as many as have signed another petition calling on the Government to come up with more cash for Lincolnshire Police...

Be careful out there...!

Slipped on the ice when I walked out of the back door first thing this morning and nearly landed on my backside. Not a great start the day....

Not surprised that the Lincs Echo says it was minus nine degrees on the A46 near Lincoln...

More importantly, the cold snap is forecast to continue into at least tomorrow...so be careful.
