Tories select candidate following Quentin's defection to Labour...

Conservative Home is reporting that Nick Boles has been selected as Tory candidate for Stamford and Grantham following the defection of Quentin Davies to Labour.

UPDATE: More about Mr Boles at the Grantham Journal who posted the news late last night, following the selection meeting. Nothing yet on the Stamford Mercury site.

Bolls stood in Hove in 2005 GE. I think many pundits tipped him to win the seat (probably because it used to be a traditionally Tory seat+Lab sitting MP standing down and the new PPC selected in January 2005, so quite late). In the end he lost to Labour by around 0.5% IIRC.
He was in the running for Tory London Mayoral nomination this year but it dropped out the race some months ago because he had cancer. Now it seems threatements have been successfull and he tried to get selected for Stamford and Grantham winning it.

Boles used to be referred by the media as part of the "Notting Hill set"

IIRC when the shortlist was announced there were also some moanings on ConHome about a particular local contender (the Association Chairman IIRC) not being shortlisted.
