Put the flags out to celebrate Britain...

I was away on holiday and totally missed the welcome news from our new Prime Minister Gordon Brown that he has scrapped the stupid ban which prevented public buildings flying our national flag except on a limited number of specific days a year.

I’m delighted that our union flag can now fly over public buildings 365 days a year, not just on 18.

Our union flag belongs to everyone who believes in our country – not just the raving right-wing lunatics who have, over the years, attempted to steal it.

Hat-tip to Michael for highlighting the good news...

Great news, that should make the people forget about Iraq(!).

You forgot to mention that Scotland would not be flying the flag. So did Gordy. What a coincidence(!). It's almost as if Phil is parroting what Gordy says...imagine!

Labour gave the Scots their Parliament to boost confidence in themselves. The Scots got so confident they booted Labour out now refuse to fly our flag. A triumph of a policy that(!).

hope you like my picture of Gordy - in case you haven't seen it, that's the flag behind him.

He's obviously not in Scotland then. Shame. They are welcome to him. Though judging by Scots Parl elections, don't want him either. My tip would be a two week excursion to Baghdad.

Now he should stop his own labour authorities from banning taxi drivers from flying the flag.

Geoffrey:

You make a fair point, but should Gordon also stop Tory and LibDem councils from also preventing taxi drivers from flying the flag...such as Cheltenham for example, described as a 'killjoy council' by currant bun, no less?

It might be your flag, but as Wales is not represented on it, the Union Jack has nothing to do with me. You can keep it.

Wales(for all that it is) is represented on the Union Jack Steve. I suggest you do some reading old boy.
