The Mail reports that an Internet campaign in Portugal is urging police to investigate the McCanns because the couple left their children alone in their holiday apartment on the fateful night little Madeleine went missing.
An article in Portugal's Sol magazine accused Madeleine's parents and the other families in their holiday group of constantly altering their version of events and suggests that they were a very strange group that never stayed with their children.
Gerry McCann said: The authorities have assured us they regard the criticisms as without foundation.
The family's spokesman Justine McGuinness said:
If they could turn back time there are things that they might have done differently, with the benefit of hindsight. But it is impossible to say whether, had there been an adult in the apartment at the time of the abduction, it would ahve stopped a predator.Meantime, I've attempted to answer a few of the comments on my previous post on this subject.
There are, sadly, several cases of children being taken by an adult with criminal intention while they have been very close by their parents.

But Madeleine's case certainly is NOT one of them.
Yet another spin by their paid campaign manager. How sad if this is all she can come up with.
I'm not surprised there is a campaign in Portugal. Portuguese people have been jailed for similar neglect, and why should they sit back and see one rule applied to them and another applied to tourists?
You haven't persuaded me otherwise FDP so I'll leave you and your crony Mike Oakeshott to it to contemplate your belly button fluff.
I wish everyone would just keep their comments to themselves if all they have is negitive comments to make. The parents made a mistake, which they didn't realize at the time and have openly admitted the guilt they feel over this. I'm sure they would go to jail in an instant should they know Madeleine would come back safe. Good idea everybody lets put the Mccanns in jail then their other two children can be lost without their parents too! NOT!!!Let's remember there is a beautiful little girl missing and the only focus should be on finding Madeleine and those whom have her. The McCanns are going through enough without all this crap being said about them. They are good parents no matter what comments are said. Thinking about you Maddie, please come home soon!!
well said anon - even if you don't have a name.
Boris: If you think I am Phil's crony I suggest you read some of the threads on this blog. We have scarceley agreed on a single subject in the last year.
Such stupidity does rather cast doubt on the validity of much of the rest of your inspired writing(which most intelligent people have come to see for the drivel it is).

Thanks, Phil. Glad to see that you're looking at both sides of the issue now.
anon:
thanks, but you may be confused.
with all these anons around, you may have thought i was supporting your argument when the following was the anon comment i was actually supporting:

if you're all the same person called anon, then that's even more confusing!

For "anon", read Doris or Sir HM. I am fairly sure this campaign was just a couple of people and a lot of anonymongs.
michael:
i would not be surprised if you were about right.
anon comments on blogs are generally very frustrating and of course carry little or no credibility.
i respect those who are at least willing to put a name to their view-points, even when diametrically opposed to my own (mostly)...
If you have something to say, people are more likely to listen if you are prepared to stand up and be counted (and identified).
