The Tories in Croydon turned a local council by-election last week into a referendum on the Prime Minister.
In a ward called Bensham Manor (no less), the Tories campaigned with the catchy slogan: Send a message to Mr Blair!
The result announced Thursday night was a sizable 10% swing...to er, Labour. The sensible voters of Bensham Manor gave the Tories a well-deserved thrashing.
A message then for Mr Cameron..?

And the Lib Dems made their priority a byelection in Barnet where they managed to come, errr, third.
The Lib Dem candidate was at school with me. He was a twit then too :)
Maybe the good burghers of Bensham Manor just ignored the national and party politics and voted for the best candidate for the time and place - much like we did in Deeping St James ...
albert has a point.
Thank you.
And being a twit never did help ones election chances, no matter what party one represents, of course.
every socialist is a twit.
I think the "twits" are those who leave comment without their name.
Liz, We all know that it's Geoffrey and that he's not the brightest illumination on the Lincolnshire coast, so let him be.
i'm with liz on this one.
why do some people so insecure that they are afraid to stand up and be counted...?
i treat comments from 'anon' with the contempt i believe they warrant...
i diagree with almost everything michael says, but at least we know where it's coming from...
and i respect his right to say it (unfiltered) here... besides, he also keeps us entertained.
Don't you just love the arrogance of these LibDems?
I am hoping they try the same tactics in Speke in Liverpool on March 8th when for reasons nobody can understand they have called a byelection a mere 8 weeks before the normal polling day.
Last year in Speke we won a seat from the LibDems with a swing of something ridiculous like 20%. I look forward to seeing a similar result in a few weeks time and who knows, Speke's message to Blair by the time we get to the end of polling day in May might be 3-0!
