Worrying news about Boston. Last week it was named as the town with the highest obesity rates in England. Today, government figures reveal that Boston bobies are more than twice as likely to die before their first birthday than those born elsewhere in England HERE
One baby in every 85 born in Boston dies before the age of one. That compares with one in 160 on average across Lincolnshire and 200 nationally.
These statistics clearly need further study to find out if there's a common problem in Boston that leads to obesity and child deaths.

Thank you for highlighting this difficult subject, Phil.
I am astonished and indeed sad at these reports. I do realise that there is a lot of poverty in the area - wages are much lower for example that many other parts of the country. Yet those who live in rural areas are not vocal about their needs. I am concerned that funds are often directed to inner city areas to combat poverty and deprivation when market towns also need this level of help. At least these reports have highlighted the problems. I would now hope the county council, Boston Borough Council, the elected MP and MEP join forces to take action to ensure the problems are dealt with.
